The Experience Visit to Pampang Culture Village

Pampang Cultural Village is a settlement of the Dayak Kenyah tribe that continues to preserve the unique culture of the Dayak Kenyah tribe. Pampang Culture Village is one of the resettled villages of the Kenyah Dayak tribe, It is located in Sungai Siring, District of North Samarinda. Pampang Culture Village is about 25 km from the center of Samarinda.

The village was formed by the displacement of Dayak Kenyah from Long Liis, Apokayan-Bulungan through Muara Wahau, Long Segar, Tabang, and Long Iram Kutai District in 1967. The exodus in the group (numbering approximately 35 families) moved from North to South until in 1973 they began to pioneer who live in Pampang Culture Village.
Pampang Culture Village is an alternative for tourists who have limited time and are willing to see the cultural life of Dayak Kenyah tribal particular. There is a traditional house called Lamin or Longhouse as a community center, with Dayak Kenyah’s sculpture. Some communities still preserve their culture, such as having long ears and tattooing their bodies with typical Dayak motifs.

Tourists who visit the Pampang Cultural Village can see performances of the Regional Dance Arts of the Dayak Kenyah Tribe regularly every week from 14.00 until the end, there are dance performances (artistic attractions) such as Kancet Poenans Letto, Kancet Welds (gong), Hudoq, Manyam Rope, Kancet Nyelama Sakai, Pemung Tawai, Hornbills dance, Leleng dance, Pangpanga.

The Pelas Tahun Ceremony
Every year in the Pampang Culture Village an event is held to commemorate the anniversary of Pampang Village, called Pelas Tahun or Post-Harvest Thanksgiving. Usually, the event will take place for four days in June every year, this is an important moment for the Dayak Kenyah community to introduce the cultural riches they have so far.
Throughout the festival, visitors are treated to performances of various stunning traditional dances, such as Nyelama Sakei, Kreasi Tapan, Ajei Piling, Hornbill, Punan Leto and Sumpit, Rope Weaving, Tani and Mecaq Undat, and Leleng. Apart from that, this festival also provides an opportunity for visitors to get closer to Dayak Kenyah culture through exhibitions of handicrafts and typical culinary delights.
