
Lok Baintan floating market is located in the village of Sungai Pinang (Lok Baintan), sub district Sungai Tabuk, Banjarmasin – South Kalimantan. This traditional floating market has existed since the Sultan of Banjar’s period.
Every morning at Lok Baintan it seen a lot of boats go to the location of the floating market. This boat is belonged to the merchants and farmers who sell their crops.
They come from other area like River Lenge, Sungai Paku Alam, Saka Sungai Bunut, Sungai Madang, Tanifah River, and the River Lok Baintan.
Trading activity starts at 05.00 am to 09.30 am. The merchants dominated women by wearing headgear. They sell a variety of merchandise, such as vegetables, fruits, traditional cakes, and others. In this floating market barter system is still valid, and money is not a primary transaction tool in here.
In generally the seller and buyer can barter their merchandise such us vegetables and fruits. The amount of the barter result depends on the agreement between the two parties. If they have agreement then each will get the goods as they wish and then used for their personal at home.
